The National Trust Longshaw Estate is a wonderful place to discover spectacular views of the Peak District, ancient woods, parkland and heather moorland.

The Longshaw Gateway project is a plan to ‘reinvent’ Longshaw as the gateway from which visitors can access this beautiful landscape.

Access For All UK were asked to provide guidance on the plan to ensure that the access needs of all potential users were incorporated into both short and longer term plans.

Our feedback on the overall plans included the need to create a Changing Places hoisted toilet facility as part of the visitor offer. In addition, we gave advice on specific elements of the plan including the development of an accessible woodland path on the Estate.

A connected piece of work was our training of the Peak Park’s Learning and Discovery team on ways to improve the accessibility of their facilities and programmes for disabled users.

Our involvement, we believe, will help to ensure that Longshaw is an inclusive ‘Jewel in the Crown’ in the National Trust’s portfolio.
